White flexible stone on a private house
White flexible stone for a house in the woods
White and forest rarely get along. Shade, wet leaves and damp that never quite dries turn a pale facade green within a few years, with a streak under every sill. That is why B01 Butcher White was chosen here: a bush-hammered surface that sheds water and gives mould nothing to hold on to, even on the shaded side of the slope.
The architecture made nothing easy — a tall tower volume with two pitched-roof wings stepping down from it, each with its own eaves height. The panels were cut on site to the real contour, so the horizontal joint runs unbroken from the granite plinth to the roof edge, across every corner and setback.
The house reads as if carved from a single block — exactly the effect wanted on a site where everything around it is alive.
